If you’re a new follower of Cassidy Lou, then you probably don’t know how much I enjoy faux fur, so let me break it down for you.

I have a beyond cozy faux fur leopard print jacket (last seen here) and I had a faux fur vest (last seen here) until I recently sold it to my lovely friend Ellen.
I love faux fur vests, but I just wasn’t in love with mine anymore. Since I sold it in September, I have been searching for a replacement vest. Even though faux fur is popular right now, I’ve been having a hard time finding a decent quality vest for a reasonable price. (I consider reasonable to be less than $75). Many of the vests feel weird, or coarse, have too much fluff, have weird patterns in the fur, or just look cheap. I have seen a handful of good black faux fur vests and white faux fur vests, but I prefer the brown because it matches with the most (and I don’t have 3 fur vests in my budget).
I originally purchased the Banana Republic vest (on the left) in October, right before my employee discount ran out. It retails for $130, but I paid around $68 (including tax), which fell at the high end of my personal budget. I kept the tags on because I wasn’t sure 100% sure I was keeping it. Fast forward and I’m walking through Target on Tuesday (doing returns, I promise) and I spot a brown faux fur vest for $34.99. Bam. What a steal. I bought it as well. Which brings me to my splurge vs. save + a comparison of the vests:
Pros: Cons:
-Lightweight -No pockets
-Lower armpit holes -Not as soft
-Faux leather collar -Two tone fur
-Less expensive
Pros: Cons:
-Has pockets -Bulky neck
-Softer faux fur -Heavy
-Nicer liner -More expensive
After modeling them both + having a roommate vote I decided to keep… the TARGET ONE!
The target one looked + felt less bulky, and was more comfortable to wear around, which means that I’m going to save + spend $28 on a faux fur vest (because I had a 20% coupon as well). How’s that for a deal?!

I am loving the brown Love21 vest. I have been having a tough time finding a nice faux fur vest in that price range as well. I found a GORGEOUS more formal black one at Talbots when I was shopping with my mother but it was $130.00. While it was beautiful, I just couldn’t spend that much on a faux fur vest. I will say this about it though, it felt like real sheared mink. Who knows. Maybe Santa will bring it to me.
From looking at them I would have splurged just because I like the collar better on the BR one, but not having tried them on I can’t say how I would like that in person. Might head to Target to see if I can find one for myself, I’ve been wanting a faux fur vest!
