Last winter I saw this necklace at Anthropologie I immediately fell in love with it, and had to have it. Even though it was WAY more than I usually spend on a necklace, I ordered it. When it came in I loved the necklace, but wasn’t thrilled with the chain length. I wanted to love every part of the necklace, especially since I paid a lot for it. At this point my roommate Jean saw the necklace, saw what I paid for it and said “Return that, I’ll make you one.”
About 6 months later we finally got around to making it, but I am thrilled with it. Every single time I wear it I receive at least one compliment!
The original one has a price tag of $95, and I’m pretty sure this one cost us $20 to make!

It was actually pretty simple to put together (even though Jean made it because I have no crafting patience!)
I picked out the beads I wanted to use, and decided how many chain links I wanted to cover. From the middle point of the chain we chose to do put 2 beads on 12 links per side. So 24 links were covered with 2 beads each (48 used). The nice part about creating this necklace is you can choose your letters, how long it is, how many beads you use, etc.
Once you’ve decided how many beads you want to use and how many chain links you want to fill, you can begin crafting. The only tools we used were a small pair of pliers.
Take the gold pin, put one flat bead on, followed by a wooden letter bead, then add another gold flat bead. (The last photo shows this). From there you use the pliers and simply bend the pin around the chain link to create a closed loop. Repeat this (very tedious..ask Jean) process until your happy with your necklace!
If (and when) you make your own alphabet necklace, PLEASE share your photos with me!

This is an AWESOME DIY! It really looks just as nice as the Anthropologie version, but it’s even better because it’s handmade. Love, love, love!
