If you follow me on Instagram (here) you know that I was supposed to be headed to Savannah, GA the last weekend in February, but was unable to go due to the mini blizzard we had in Michigan. I was pretty disappointed that I didn’t get to accompany my friends or get out of the nasty snow, but I was quite proud of myself for packing only ONE backpack. Thats right, not a suitcase, but a backpack.
Generally I’m an over-packer, but for this trip I knew I wanted to keep it under control. Here are a few of my tips for packing light:
1.) Mix & Match – I brought one jacket that went with everything, and tops & pants that could be mixed & matched.
2.) Pack neutral shoes – by bringing only black and tan shoes they could match with any of my outfit combinations
3.) Wear layers & bulky items on the plane – had I been able to get on the plane, I would’ve been rocking my high top Nikes since they were one of my largest items to pack.
4.) Fill shoes with socks & underwear – I did this when I flew to London as well – it saves room!
5.) Bring versatile accessories – one of the necklaces I packed has probably 10 different colors in it – it saved me the hassle of bringing too much jewelry because it worked well with my gray tee, black tunic, t-shirt dress & red dress. My Rebecca Minkoff bag worked well because it has a neutral base (tan) with multicolored tassels!
I’ve shared some photos below of my outfits laid out (if only this trip had happened haha). Tell me, what are some tips you have for packing lighter?
