I stopped complaining about my job.
Amazing, isn’t it?
That something so simple, and so in my control, could completely alter my day.
If you know me, then you know I that I do not like working full time. There, I said it. I think being stuck in an office all day is dumb. And I’m sure that part of this is because I haven’t really loved any of my jobs yet. Some are way better than others (hey Hex team!) but all in all, I struggle in the same place, at the same time, five days a week.
I believe I struggle SO much because of my personality. If you’ve never taken personality tests I would highly recommend doing so. I’ve taken multiple, but the most in depth one I’ve done is the Birkman’s assessment. Its more than 300 questions long, and gives you a complete report about your personality; your strengths, weaknesses, where you will excel, etc. I scored a 95/100 on the need for personal independence and freedom…no wonder I feel trapped all day.
But, a few weeks ago, after a particularly rough few days (my tire fell off my car while I was driving – see picture below, my iPhone screen shattered, and work was driving me up a wall) I made the conscious decision to not complain about my job and instead focus on the good things about it.
And you know what? I’ve felt way better since. Do I love my job? No. Am I happy I am able to support myself? Yes. Are there WAY worse jobs out there? 100%.
Complaining isn’t going to change things, only you can do that.
Instead of spending time complaining and putting negative energy into the world, I’ve been focusing on all the good, and at this point in my life, I can happily say that most negative people and energy are no longer in my life.
Don’t be the friend who is always complaining. We all have (or had) one and know how annoying it truly is. So, I’m challenging you (and myself of course) to minimize the complaints. There will always be a bad day here or there, but let’s do our best to focus on the positives.

PS. this jacket from H&M is SO GOOD. lightweight to wear now, easy to layer in the fall, makes you appear cooler than you are. (what more could you ask for?)

And last but not least – when my tire (quite literally) fell off my car while I was driving.
