I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I’ve become more materialistic.
And I kind of hate it.
I’ve always cared more about clothes and shoes than most. Some people love cars and always want to drive the nicest and newest, some people are all about hats, some need to have the most beautifully decorated home and the top notch kitchen appliances. Me? I want to look and feel good.
While I lack materialism in most areas (you should see my dented 2003 Honda Accord haha), I make up for it in my closet.
Moving to California exacerbated my love of shopping, and more so as a coping mechanism than anything else. I was sad, felt out of place, and somewhat lonely, so I would shop. It’s easy to do alone, and the instant gratification of a new dress made me feel good. It made me briefly forget how much I missed home and disliked my job.
Orange County is also an extremely materialistic area (not helping the problem!), and the abundance of shopping within a 15 mile radius of my apartment is INSANE.
That being said, I’m currently working to change some of the factors contributing to my unhappiness (more coming soon I promise), and am actively not shopping. And it’s hard. But, my goal is to make it one month and go from there. I’ve been deleting emails as soon as they come in, rediscovering older pieces in my closet (like these blue heels I wore Wednesday, or this Fossil purse above), and selling items on my Poshmark (there is GOOD stuff – check it out!)
I’ve made it 8 days (whoop!) and the goal is to make it until October 28th. (feel free to check in with me and hold me accountable!) It’s easy to get caught up in trends or big sales and I’m really working to be better.
Here’s to a wonderful, relaxing weekend (cause this girl needs it!)
As always, thank you SO much for following along.
xo, Maddy

Good luck! I’ve made it through a couple of shopping bans and always found them easier in practice than I thought they would be.
