We are creatures of habit, whether we like to admit it or not. Every year when fall rolls around I find myself reaching for my favorite “fall” items: flannels, skinny jeans, ankle boots & quilted vests. Some variation of this outfit was my go-to all last year. So, I wanted to share a few places to snag these items with you all [in case anyone is in dire need of more plaid 😉 ]
Let’s start with ANKLE BOOTS aka my babies.I’ve been on a serious ankle boot kick these last two years (they are all I wear). And while high quality boots can get a bit pricer, they are something I choose to put my money into. Someone once told me – “Spend good money on the things that separate you from the ground – tires & shoes” – and I tend to go by that. I would much rather skip the designer jeans for a great (and comfortable) pair of boots I can wear for years.
There are two spots I always find great boots: ShopBop & Nordstrom.
Both carry a wide array of brands, in all different price ranges, so you are able to evaluate a lot of options. Plus both offer FREE shipping & returns (amen!)
IMPORTANT PSA – ShopBop is currently have their massive fall sale and you can use the code MAINEVENT16 to get 25% off your order. This code will also get your 30% off your order if you’re feeling REAL wild and spend over $500. But for all us budgeting gals – the 25% off works for under $500.This is a great chance to save on some awesome brands (think Sam Edelman, Jeffrey Campbell, Rebecca Minkoff!)
Next up – plaid flannel shirts & quilted vests. While you can find these items almost anywhere, my favorite place to go is Old Navy. Over the past three years I’ve been adding to my collection of Old Navy flannels & vests. I bought the black and navy vests in 2014, added the olive green to my collection in 2015, and recently cheap medications scooped up this pretty gray version. (I may or may not have snagged this flannel as well!)

Why Old Navy?
Here are a few ways I’ve worn Old Navy flannels & quilted vests over the past three years:
And last (but not least) skinny jeans. I gave flares a chance back in the spring, but all the extra fabric around my ankles really bugs me, so I’m sticking to my skinny jeans. Some of my go-to denim brands (all under $100!) are:
Banana Republic – (I like that they have some stretch but still hold their shape – I bought a pair in February and haven’t had to wash them yet – NO JOKE) (and yes, you can call me gross, I’m not offended)
Gap – I find their jeans are thicker, which was great for Michigan winters
Articles of Society – these are more lightweight with a bit of stretch, which is working out well here in Cali
Gap & Banana always have sales going on, so usually I wait for a 40% off sale. Articles of Society jeans don’t often go on sale, but I don’t think they have any pairs that cost more than $65.
Sale alert – use code STYLE at Gap for 40% (some exclusions apply)
There we have it, a few of my favorite places and pieces for the upcoming season. Hope you enjoy (and find something wonderful!)
