I’ve been putting a large amount of my time, money and energy into my health lately.
Unlike most things in life, I have control over my health, both mental and physical. I can control the amount of sleep I get, the foods that fuel my body, the workouts I do, and how I cope with the curveballs life throws.
With this cross country move, the first few months were a complete whirlwind, and it helped me feel better knowing I at least had control over my physical health (mental health was a bit shaky at that point).
It may sound selfish, but the better I am to myself, the better I am to other people. When I am happy, I am a better friend, roommate, daughter, sister and girlfriend.
When I’m overworked, hungry and exhausted – I do a pretty bad job at all of my roles.
It’s in the best interest of you and the people you care about to take care of yourself. Because at the end of the day, you’re all YOU have.
Investing in yourself doesn’t have to be fitness related. It can be as simple as taking 10 minutes every day to read a book you love, or as long term as going back to school for your Master’s Degree. What do you want to do that is just for you? That makes you happy? Or helps you feel calm?
For me, the biggest factor is getting enough sleep. If I’m tired throughout the day I often make poor food choices and have a higher chance of skipping my workout; both of which make me feel like crap. I feel best when I’ve had eight hours of sleep, eaten good foods and completed a great workout.
This weekend I’m challenging you to do something for YOU – that helps you, that makes you better, even just something you enjoy.
Happy Weekend 🙂
xo, Maddy
