Counting Crows, I FEEL you.
(and yes, Joni Mitchell was the original with this song, but in my head its the Counting Crows version).
It’s amazing how much I miss the changing seasons now that I live in a place where the weather variance is minimal. It does get colder in the evenings (California is a desert climate) and since we live close to the ocean we are lucky to have a breeze majority of the time but, for the most part, its hot and sunny everyday. [Except this past Monday, where it actually rained for more than 10 minutes]
Which, in theory, sounds like a dream come true, right?
And it is, some days.
But then I realize its October 20 and it feels like I’m in a time warp because I’m looking at the same palm trees everyday.
I miss the colors changing, having to layer my flannels and vests, and all the things fall brings. Luckily, we are headed back to Michigan next week so I will hopefully get my fill of cooler temps, falling leaves and Robinette’s cider and donuts (priorities). Everyone keeps saying I won’t miss the Midwest in February (which may be true) but we’ll see how that pans out.
For me, each season feels like a new beginning. That might sound weird, or annoying cliche, but I love that each season is unique and different, and that I hold special traditions and memories for each. Truthfully, the entire move to California happened pretty quickly (less than 3 months between applying for the job & moving) and I was so focused on finding a place to live/wrapping up life in Michigan that I didn’t really think about how different it would be. Looking back it was a slightly rash decision (oh well), but it sure is interesting getting to explore California.
I’ve start compiling a “bucket list” of sorts for places I want to visit before we leave. If you have any recommendations – let me know in the comments below!
