This past Saturday my mom, sisters (+1) and I headed out to support local businesses all over Toledo. We made Shop Small Saturday into a girl’s day and had fun showing my sister’s friend our hometown (hey Delaney!). Truly, a lot of the places we visited were new to me as well, since I don’t spend much time exploring Toledo anymore.
Our first stop was Black Kite Coffee on Collingwood – we snapped a few pictures by the awesome mural and warmed up inside with lattes and hot chocolates. We also added our own words of inspiration and kindness to the window that people had started post-election. They had some delicious looking donuts – so next time I’m back you know what I’ll be trying.
We then headed over to Handmade Toledo (where majority of these outfit photos were taken) to scope out all the locally made goodies. I was happy to see that about 15 others had the same idea as us, and the place was moving & grooving.
Unlike me, both my sisters are very artistic, so we headed to The Art Supply Depot to stock up on supplies (or if you’re me to buy a cute piece of flamingo print paper) and see the lights they hung by the Mud Hens stadium.
After strolling more downtown we drove back to West Toledo to visit two of our favorite spots – Calvinos Restaurant and Christie’s Candies (I can’t resist their chocolate dipped Oreos) for some late afternoon snacks, and ended up popping into Style 516 (a resale shop), where my sister found a vintage Ralph Lauren leather dress.
I’m a big fan of shopping (and especially eating) local – when I lived in Grand Rapids we almost exclusively supported local restaurants, and whenever I travel I do my best to eat local.
Tell me, did any of you participate in Shop Small Business Saturday?
xo, Maddy

I didn’t know you were from Toledo—so am I. I grew up in Sylvania!!
We actually did head out and support small businesses last Saturday. We went to downtown Littleton, and stolled around, ate and shopped!! Great minds think alike!
