sorry Al – it was the best picture I could find of me in a denim skirt…
Denim skirts look so adorable on other people, but I knew there was NO WAY I could buy another medium wash denim mini.
Luckily, retailers have been selling both white and black denim skirts in multiple lengths and cuts, so if you don’t want to look like you walked out of Abercrombie in 2006, you don’t have to. J.Crew released this white denim skirt (its adorable) and my black denim pencil skirt is from Joe’s Jeans via Nordstrom Rack.
I wasn’t going to give into the denim skirts (even though I really wanted to) until I spotted the black denim one at Nordstrom Rack a few weeks ago. It’s comfortable, length is appropriate, and the small details like the step hem, the faded wash and the raw edge make me feel a bit more “I’m a cool mom” and less like “I just left my middle school dance in my mom’s minivan.” (At this point in my life I will for sure take cool mom over middle school).
Timing worked out perfectly as I recently donated a black knit skirt to Goodwill that used to be my summer “going out” skirt. It was easy to pair with sneakers, sandals or chunky heels, and was high waisted so it could be styled with crop tops, bodysuits and v-neck tees alike. Essentially it was my “go with everything” black skirt for casual summer nights downtown. (Not work appropriate). But after trying it on before we moved it felt WAY too short, so it looks like I’ll be wearing either this denim skirt or my faux leather one downtown this summer.

Firstly, I love your denim skirt and you’re giving me hope I too could make one work again!! As for the trend? Honestly, I’ve held off and wasn’t 100% sure I wanted to go there again… so much harder to wear a trend, I feel, if you’ve already been around for it. But, here’s hoping I find one as cute as yours! And speaking of cute?! Aw your photo!!!! <3

I’ve been trying to avoid it for months…but I think by finding one that looks NOTHING like the one I previous owned made it so much better.
Thank you!
I personally am down but haven’t found one I love yet.

Yeah it was definitely a struggle. I did love the white Jcrew one on you but you were right that it was a bit short!
Yes they are!! I literally just added this to my list of things I want for summer.
So funny, I thought I’d never be into this look again. I definitely had a few pairs in the early 2000s 😉
