Dressed to Match in Grand Rapids

Good morning + Happy Friday!

Sometime last year I stumbled upon the instagram account @dressedtomatch – which is just what it sounds like, outfits that match their location. If you visit her blog, Michelle, the author, shares how she was inspired to start the page. Long story short, she is an art gallery director in Sacramento, and began matching her dresses to art pieces in gallery openings.

When Devin and I were deciding what + where to shoot a few weeks ago, I had the idea to do my own “dressed to match.” This MINKPINK dress (that I shared on the blog last summer) is a favorite of mine, and it conveniently coordinates with this recent(ish) mural in downtown Grand Rapids.

If you’re local, this mural (and a handful of others) are located under the highway and right by the stairs on Division. Clearly our timing wasn’t amazing, as we had direct sunlight and you can see Devin’s shadow in these photos , but we will be back to shoot more.

I love murals, and I hope Grand Rapids keeps getting more, which I’m pumped about. I already have a list started of places to shoot this summer.

Majority of my outfit is old, but these Target sandals are a recent snag. They’re affordable (under $25), comfortable and a great neutral to pair with outfits all summer. I’ve been wearing them to work 2x per week because they match with all my summer dresses. If you don’t want a neutral, they’re available in red and lilac as well! As far as sizing goes – I have narrow feet and I sized down to a 6.5.
