(I know I have).
Personally, I can’t stand that question
And you know why?
I don’t know what the next 5 years will hold.
This is not to say I don’t have goals, and won’t be working toward anything, but if there is one thing I’ve learned in the last 5 years, it is that SO much can and will happen.
My 21 year old self never (in a million years) would my been able to tell you where I’d be now and how I got there.
Heck, I couldn’t have told you in January of this year that I’d be buying a house in July. And that’s a 7 month time frame…
So, when I do get asked this question, I’ve started answering “I hope to be happy and healthy.” I’m sure interviewers hate this answer, but please, ask me a question relevant to the job, my experience or the company.
Let me know in the comment below.

I was interviewing for a teaching job years ago and got asked this question. I said something about owning a house with a white picket fence around it …Must not of impressed them because I didn’t get the job.
Oh I agree, it is the worst! I feel like having a five year plan is limiting, it doesn’t let you see all of the possibilities.
