With freezing temps hitting us a bit sooner than expected, I’ve been wearing sweaters and flannels the past week or so. I know many people love sweaters, but admittedly, I’m not the biggest sweater lover for two reasons:
1.) Even the smallest percentage of wool in a sweater irritates my skin, so I can’t handle sweaters with any wool
2.) I find that I get too warm easily and I really don’t like sweating under a huge sweater
Generally sweaters are made of cotton, acrylic, wool, cashmere (with some nylon or spandex thrown in there) or some combination of these fabrics.
Personally I prefer 100% cotton or 100% cashmere because I find they are less likely to be too warm or too itchy.
(Isn’t this so exciting talking about the make up of sweaters? haha)
Seriously though, the amount of times I answered the question “Is there wool in this?” while working retail last winter is absurd.
Obviously cotton and acrylic sweaters are going to be the most budget friendly, but guys, cashmere is totally worth it. And this is coming from the girl who currently owns one cashmere sweater.
I bought this tunic sweater at TJ Maxx in 2016 and it is by far my most worn sweater. Below I’ll be sharing a few ways I’ve previously styled it, but just yesterday I wore it to work Tuesday with these black skinny jeans + leopard mules.
Cashmere is more expensive + will require dry cleaning, but like most things in life, if you take care of it, it will last.
Currently my friend and I are on a bit of a shopping break (yes, I know I always say this and yes it’s actually happening this time), but later this season I would like to add 1-2 more cashmere sweaters to my wardrobe in classic cuts + colors.
As I age I realize how much I would rather have less higher quality pieces I adore than more cheap items I wear once or twice. But, this doesn’t mean I have endless funds to spend on shopping (I wish), so I did some research and rounded up 4 places to find cashmere sweaters, with majority of them being $100 or less!
The 4 places I found a good amount of affordable cashmere options are: H&M, TJ Maxx, J.Crew Factory and Everlane and I’ve linked a handful of items from each below.
Anyone else adore cashmere? If you have any other great places to find affordable cashmere let me know in the comments below!

Thank you Mira!
I HATE wool sweaters! But they are always so cute. I usually end up wearing a tshirt under most of my sweaters so I don’t get itchy. I got my mom an Everlane cashmere sweater last year and she loved it so much. Also, I wanted to steal it.

okay yes I definitely want to get an everlane cashmere this year – they look amazing!!!!
that’s a smart idea – I should layer items!
So fun to see all the ways you have styled your sweater, and shopping places like TJMaxx is a great idea for affordable cashmere.
