Let’s chat denim! As the winter drags on, I become increasingly bored of my constant rotation of skinny jeans + leather leggings, but most days I choose warmth over fashion (at least when I’m only going to the office).
This year I added another pair of black denim to my closet – a cropped flare.
Over the summer I shared a distressed pair of cropped flares from Madewell (here), and while I like them, they’re nowhere near as versatile as the black pair I’m sharing today.
My mom gave me these jeans as a Christmas gift and they’re from Abercrombie (no joke!)
I stayed true to my normal denim size, but we did end up DIY-ing the hem. I’m short, so we cut almost 2 inches off the bottom. We didn’t do anything special after cutting, I simply washed the jeans and let them dry and the distressed hem turned out nicely.
PS. They’re currently on sale for under $40! 🙂
Anyway, today I wanted to show you 3 ways to style them if you’ve been on the fence about cropped flares.
Outfit 1: Casual with sneakers + a denim jacket
To me this outfit is perfect for March – its still winter + cold outside, but the denim jacket feels more spring with a patterned sneaker!

Outfit 2: Playful with printed boots + a ruffled blouse
These plaid boots never get old, since they’re neoprene they hug the ankle and sit nicely under the flare of the denim. The colors really pop against the black, and personally like navy paired with black.

Outfit 3: Sweater blazer + leopard boots
If you’re office is more casual like mine, this could be a great weekday outfit to make your denim look a bit more professional. This sweater blazer is definitely one of my favorites purchases of 2018 – I love that it looks put together but is still incredibly comfortable!

I actually have another way I styled these jeans coming to you soon (from DC), but of the ones I posted today, which is your favorite?
Let me know in the comments below!
Have a wonderful weekend!
