There’s a REALLY good chance you’ve seen this green utility jacket before, whether you follow the blog, Instagram or we’re friends IRL.
It is one of the most worn items in my closet, and almost always travels with me, whether it’s on a short road trip or a long flight abroad.
Every time I wear this jacket people asked where it’s from – and I sadly have to respond that it’s from a Gap Outlet…but I purchased in 2008. No joke, I have been wearing this green utility jacket consistently since my junior year of high school! It’s one of those easy, casual jackets you can pair with almost anything.
People (aka bloggers and retail workers) love to throw around the term “wardrobe staples.” While I definitely believe everyone has staple pieces in their closet, I also believe that these differ for people depending on their lifestyle.
For me and my lifestyle, this jacket has become a staple. And, based on the friends I’ve spent time with this month, I can tell you it’s a staple in their closet as well. Just last week I had a friend wear a green utility jacket to a girl’s dinner and another friend wear one when I visited last weekend.
While I do wear my jacket year round (it’s made an appearance in 4 outfits in the last two weeks), I believe it’s best for spring + fall, where you need an extra layer but nothing too heavy. I think a green utility jacket is a timeless and ageless piece (my mom rocks hers), and if you’re looking for styling ideas, scroll down to see 11 ways I’ve styled mine over the past 5 years!
I’ve linked a handful of options below, but some other favorites are:
this canvas utility jacket from Old Navy
this slub utility jacket from Gap
this twill utility jacket from Banana Republic
I’m curious, do you consider a green utility jacket a closet staple? Let me know in the comments below!
