hello hello, coming to you from the other side of the longest style challenge ever! I only missed one or two days, but otherwise I shared my real life style on Instagram for 99 days in a row.
[If you’re curious to see all 99 days in one spot – hop on over to this page, where I chronicled it all!]
My initial thoughts?
I am glad it’s done! It definitely made me put more effort into getting dressed daily, which was one of the goals. I liked sharing my non-exciting real life outfits too, because life is not a pretty picture majority of the time. But was I ready for Day 99?
Yep. 🙂
I clicked through the photos today and realized that I was not adventurous with my shoes at all. I pretty much stuck to 10 pairs for the entirety of the summer, in part because they’re comfortable and versatile, but also because a good amount of my shoes are sitting away in bins in the basement since we ended up moving last minute mid-July. I was more creative in the first 30 days, mixing in all my old colorful sandals, but around day 33 (conveniently when we moved) I gave in and stuck with the basics. I linked the same (or similar) items for my most worn shoes during the challenge below!
It was actually fun sharing my looks everyday on Instagram and engaging more with friends + people who follow. I tried to wear items multiple times to showcase how you can remix pieces you already own. There were definitely a few days in there where all I wanted to do was wear an oversized t-shirt and jeans, which did happen once or twice, but I tried to make it *somewhat* stylish. Looking back there are some outfits I would NOT repeat, but plenty scattered in there that I will.
One of my goals with this was to shop less, and while I didn’t do amazing with this, going through and wearing almost all my old items helped me realize what needed to stay and what needed to go. I ended up taking 40 pieces to the resale shop this summer!
Plus, the pieces I did add into my wardrobe were chosen specifically, and all work cohesively together. I’m getting much better at saying no to impulse items, or items that I know won’t get enough wear.
Anyway, here are some of my favorite and least favorite looks from the past few months. Thanks so much for following along and stayed tuned for the next style challenge starting October 1st 🙂
These all feel like me. I was still able to incorporate color and pattern without going over the top or feeling too forced. They’re all made from a mixture of newer and older items in my closet, and I know they will all be repeated.
These were my 3 least favorite looks…should I say goodbye to the denim skirt? Looking back they feel like “too much” or I tried too hard by bringing in colors in both accessories and shoes. I still love my Palm Springs tee, floral blazer and colorful sandals – but not all together! And the romper, it really doesn’t fit anymore and feels a bit too juvenile.
Would you ever do style challenge for 99 days? Or is that WAYYYY too long?
xo, Maddy

I loved this! I like seeing this together, too. I personally love how you incoporate color and pattern into your looks, it always inspires me. I don’t think I would do a 99 days series, but I kinda do somethign of a sort with how I put my style together (it is Capsule Wardrobe-ish!)
yes absolutely! sometimes I feel like I go for almost too much color and pattern, but I’m working to find that balance as I mature and my style matures with it. I love your style too -all so pretty but realistic!
