Happy Friday! I actually wore a variation of this outfit to the office Monday, but these photos were taken over Thanksgiving, as this was my “Thanksgiving outfit.”
And before we dive in talking about this chain belt, we first need to give this jumpsuit some love. It’s AMAZING, it is sold out and I’m sorry! But, I did some searching for you and there are still a few out there! I found some sizes available on eBay (here) and a handful of sizes available on Poshmark. I found it true to size – I’m wearing the 2.
Anyway, today I want to talk about taking a trend + making it work for your personal style.*
*There will be plenty of trends that do not fit your personal style. Do not feel the need to try them, or buy certain pieces because everyone else is rocking them. You’re going to look and feel your best in pieces that fit your style, not someone else’s.
With that, I think there is something to be said for working certain trends into your personal style (without feeling like you’re in a costume).
I have a few belts I rotate between to accentuate my waist in dresses and jumpsuits. They’re nothing too crazy – a thin leopard belt, a thin brown belt and a black belt with a gold lion’s head buckle (okay slightly crazy). They’re good belts, nothing is wrong with them, but I wanted a different vibe. The leather felt too stuffy, and you have to buy belts by size so they either fit the waist or the hips. I’d liked seeing a chain belt styled on other women, but wasn’t sure if it would work on me.
With some coercing from my sister, I ended up purchasing this chain belt from Urban Outfitters, and have been surprised with how many times I’ve already reached for it. So far I’ve worn it with my faux leather jumpsuit, black mini dress, jeans + a turtleneck, and my black jeans + a blazer. I normally wouldn’t have looked at Urban, but it was the perfect price point for trying it out ($20).
I love the functionality because you can clip the chain belt on any loop – making it work for higher on your waist or lower on your hips. And, at $20, it’s an easy and affordable way to breathe new life into older pieces, or take a simple outfit up a notch. I’ve also been wearing these gold hoops pretty much daily, and I love the circles on the belt paired with the hoop earrings.
Thanks for stopping by today! Are you for or against chain belts? Let me know in the comments below.
xo, Maddy
