Simple + stylish is always the goal, especially on a Monday. This outfit makes me feel GOOD. And the ribbed turtleneck, faux leather skirt + fleece-lined tights trio is ridiculously warm and comfortable, which is all you can ask for at the end of January.
I feel like the older I get, the more simple my outfits are. Now, I’m always going to be one for a sequin top, or a colorful pair of shoes, but lately I’ve been finding myself in a steady rotation of my favorites, all within the same color palette. Black, camel, shades of green, denim, gold + gray – my fall/winter colors.
Working within a color palette definitely makes getting dressed easier, as most of my items pair well together. As I’m on this journey to simply buy LESS (more coming on that later this week), versatility is so important. And yes, I know I sound like a broken record, but truly, creating a versatile closet full of pieces you feel good in makes getting dressed WAY easier.
I’ve also been surprised at how frequently I want to wear this turtleneck. It’s warm but thin enough to layer, making it the perfect base piece. I’d highly recommend adding one simple black turtleneck to your wardrobe no matter where you live.
Because this outfit is so simple, it can act as a base. Add a black blazer + switch the boots to pumps to dress it up. Throw on a denim jacket and switch out the boots for sneakers. Or, add a heeled boot and a patterned blazer (aka the winter version of this outfit!)
Sometimes simple is best
All of this to say – not every outfit has to be over the top. Simple really is best sometimes. I’m linking *almost* the same pieces below. My turtleneck is from last year, but Madewell brought it back + it’s on sale! I own and love the black version of this faux leather skirt, and that’s what I’ve linked below. The boots are by the same brand, and a similar version of mine from last year.
