I don’t usually blog on a Saturday but since it’s February 1st, I wanted to announce the next month’s challenge for Sustainable Swaps 2020. A quick reminder if you missed last month’s post – I teamed up with two other friends to run a year long sustainability challenge with each month focusing on a different challenge. You can read more about it here!
The plan is to announce each challenge at the beginning of the month and then recap at the end of the month. We would love for you to join us, tag us on Instagram, and use the hashtag #sustainableswaps2020.
We would love to feature people who are joining us at the end of the month recaps, so DM your photos of your swaps to any of us on Instagram.

Last month the focus was on reusable drinkware, and doing our best to stop using single use coffee cups, water bottles, straws, etc. We had a lot of you tagging us on Instagram stories + sharing photos, so I’ve saved all of those to the sustainable swaps highlight. You can view it on my profile here.
I did my best and was really good about my water bottle and coffee cups, but Brendan and I did hit the Chick-Fil-A drive through and I tried to get them to put my diet lemonade into my reusable Starbucks cup and it was unsuccessful. So again, our goal is progress not perfection!
Grab some reusable bags, or even old brown paper bags and throw them in your car! I try to keep a few smaller ones and one bigger Trader Joe’s one in my trunk at all times and I’ll use them for groceries, or if I’m shopping at the store. Or, half the time I forget so I just carry the items in my hand haha.
Anyway, that’s the focus this month. Let’s keep up with those reusable cups and start adding in reusable bags.
Here’s to a more sustainable 2020 🙂
xo, Maddy
