Good morning! Checking in today with my April closet recap. Part of the goal of doing these monthly recaps is to:
1.) Keep me accountable for my purchasing
2.) Allow me to share products or brands I find + love with you!
I stated back in March that my desire to shop was low, and hate to say that was not the case in April. In the past I’ve used shopping as a clutch – unhappy at work? Shop. Had a rough day? Shop. Bored and scrolling the internet? Shop.
The urge to shop has been coming back in waves (like most emotions during quarantine) so I purchased more items than initially expected this month, but also am not going to mentally beat myself up for that. I went through ALL of my clothing earlier in the month and am selling or donating a TON of items that I’ve been holding onto the last few years.
Replacing old habits with new habits is hard, and I’ve been working to completely shift my thinking. I spent some time this month researching sustainable brands and have a (quite long) on-going list that I will be sharing soon. Happy to report one of this month’s purchases was from a new-to-me sustainable brand!
After having this in my cart for months, I finally ordered it when I earned an Aerie reward. I ordered the black in size XS and it is amazing. I’m wearing it now, and will be wearing it ALL THE TIME. Last summer I found myself reaching for my Lou & Grey knit romper frequently, as it was the perfect piece to be comfy + pulled together during the summer. I want to be comfortable, but hate going out in ill-fitting shorts or sweats. A knit romper or jumpsuit is the perfect compromise for me.
A few years ago I had to say goodbye to my lighter wash distressed denim (it was actually falling apart), and since then I’ve been wanting to replace it but haven’t found the right pair. In my sustainable research I discovered the brand Edwin, a Japanese brand that mainly focuses on denim.
Launched in Toyko in 1961, they manufacture their jeans at SAITEX in Vietnam. Taken directly from their website “SAITEX is a zero-discharge facility, recycling 98% of the water it uses (the remaining 2% is evaporated). This means that, after recycling, SAITEX only uses 1.5 liters of water per jean, compared to the industry standard of 80 liters.”
Conveniently, Shopbop carries Edwin, and I was able to get the Cai Straight Jean with my credit (as part of an ongoing collaboration).
Billabong had a big promo on this collection back in March, but all the items didn’t arrive until April. I ordered multiple sizes of each because I cannot tell you the last time I shopped at Billabong (maybe never). Anyway, I ended up keeping:
Black cotton sundress
Yellow cotton wide leg pants + rainbow crop
Pink Graphic tee
You’ve already seen the tee since it was one of the items in the Spring 10×10 Challenge! The collection is no longer on sale at Billabong, but Nordstrom has all the items 25% off right now. (If you are looking at this collection, the reviews are pretty “ehh” because the sizing is a bit weird. I ended up with a medium in the dress and pants, and a small in the crop and tee.)
I will say, I did have that specific tee on my wishlist as well as a black cotton sundress, but the whole yellow pant/rainbow crop combo was me going rogue. I am looking forward to remixing the pants frequently though – a lightweight, wide leg pant is a nice break from jeans/jean shorts in the summer.
The Ray-Ban sale got the best of me. Brendan wanted my round reflective Ray-Bans, so I sold him those and used the money toward the classic pair. I love the shape, and enjoyed my reflective ones, but they weren’t dark enough for me.
Anyway, that’s all for today! I’m sharing more about the Aerie jumpsuit over on IG stories if you’re interested. Thanks for stopping by + have a great day!
