3 Ways to Style a Black Slip Dress

Normally I’d make this a “holiday-esque” post and share three ideas for styling this black slip dress so you could attend 3 holiday parties without buying more. But, things are different this year, and I don’t know about you but I can pretty much guarantee I will be attending ZERO holiday parties. So instead, I’m going to share a few more practical styling ideas with you so your slinky dresses don’t have to hide in the closet until next year.

Dress the slip dress ALL the way down:

I added a cropped gray hoodie + denim jacket on top of the dress – both to make it more casual and add warmth. Adding the belt bag helps define a waist, since the dress is a straight cut, and the sneakers are all about function. Yes you could pair all these items with leggings, but the dress takes it up a notch while still being comfortable!

Layer under + over it:

I layered a black and white striped long sleeve underneath with an oversized cargo jacket on top – this makes it less bulky than the hoodie + denim jacket combo, but still warm! A turtleneck or lightweight sweater would also layer well! I went with combat boots for a little edge, but you could do sneakers or flats here as well.

Okay I lied about not styling anything fancy. One look has to be dramatic (let me live!) so I paired the dress with two bold accessories. Both my faux fur stole and gold boots were purchased secondhand, and they’re the perfect combo for this dress! I added a leopard belt to accent my waist + a faux leather jacket on top.
