An outfit post on the blog? Who is she? To say blogging has taken a backseat lately would be an understatement. Per usual, I have managed to fill my plate up a little too full, and blogging is always the first thing to go, whether I want it to or not. Since my blogging has been scarce since the last 3-4 months I figured I’d share the handful of big life updates before diving into spring style ideas.
First up – the cutest update – our puppy Arlo. Brendan and I got a puppy in February (here are photos from when he was tiny), but I was definitely underprepared mentally for the amount of work it is at the beginning. Luckily, it’s getting easier and we’re figuring out our groove and he’s growing up a little bit.
Second- I am signed up, training for and racing a Half Ironman in June. I actually signed up for a Half Ironman in 2011, and ended up stress fracturing my femur 2 months before the race so I had to drop out. I’m back 10 years later, and I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been, so accomplishing this goal is a big deal for me. I have no doubt I will be emotional crossing that finish line. And one of my best friends (Devin) is also training and racing with me! I’m sharing training updates + more over on Instagram – so if that’s something that interests you – keep up with me there.
Lastly, I’ve accepted a remote full time job that starts this coming Monday, April 12th. I believe this company and role are a great fit for me and I’m looking forward to having a little more routine in my life (it helps me when there is a lot going on).
All of these changes (amidst plenty of other things) have a been A LOT to say the least, but it’s forcing me to learn to let some things go, use my time wisely, and truly giving me an appreciation for what my body can do.
That being said, I am notorious for trying to do it all, do it well and do it at once. Which, as we all know, is impossible. So, what I’m personally working on is having more realistic expectations for MYSELF. Until the puppy is older and the Half Ironman race is over…I’m trying to give myself a literal TON of grace when it comes to blogging, social media, taking style clients and all that comes with it. Do I like it? No. But does it have to happen? Yes.
We can do all the things we want to. And we can do them well. JUST NOT ALL AT ONCE. Anyway…let’s talk spring style, shall we?
I flew out to San Francisco a few weekends ago to visit Lizzie before we both start our new jobs (and I STILL had flight credit haha) so we spent a long weekend enjoying our time together, cooking, hiking, walking, working out, and just relaxing. It was nice to have a reason to get dressed and feel a bit like myself again.
I wanted to blog the outfits I wore to hopefully give you a little spring style inspiration and share some affordable and versatile pieces that you’ll be seeing again 🙂
First up – THIS DRESS has been a hit on Instagram – it’s a lovely linen blend – and the price is $39.99…so it’s hard to say no. I’ve worn it with this faux leather jacket and white sneaks twice this spring, but will definitely be pairing it with sandals this summer. I love the details – the cutout and bow on the back, the square neck, the puff sleeve and slight ruffle along the hem. It’s feminine without being overwhelming and an appropriate length for plenty of activities. I dressed it down for the city, but you could dress it up as well. I do think it runs a little big in terms of sizing (I’m wearing an XS!)
Then we have this neon + green color combo that I adore. The black denim skirt is a few years old from AGOLDE, but the sneakers, tank and jacket are all available! My love for neon isn’t new, and I know I’ll wear this tank from now through the fall. Be warned – it’s from Urban Outfitters and the sizing is…questionable? I sized up to a large in this. I do really enjoy the cut of the tank (it’s a racerback in the front and back) but I want to warn you that the sizing is definitely made for the average Urban Outfitters customer…aka not me.
My green faux leather jacket is from a small female owned biz out of Cincinnati, OH, and is currently on sale for $32! Obviously I love green, but it is a nice change up from the classic black moto jacket – and looks equally as good with jeans + a tee. I ordered a medium – here’s the jacket!
Lastly, we have these boots. Well and the rest of the outfit, but I know you all have seen these black jeans and denim jacket approximately 300 times. So, back to the boots. I wanted a light neutral lug sole boot all winter but didn’t find the right option until I saw these Steve Madden boots on Dana. They’re chunky without being massive and I appreciate a little bit of heel. Currently they’re 50% off at Macy’s if you’re interested!
I do think they look best with a straight or wider leg pant because they need to be balanced. Although, I plan on pairing them with skirts this spring…stay tuned.
That’s all I have for today. I so appreciate y’all sticking with me.
Much love,
Maddy
