I do realize it’s already mid-March but there’s no time like the present to begin tracking my 2022 shopping challenge here as well. Inspired by Paige at Style this Life and her 21 items in 2021, I’ve set out to add 22 items to my closet in 2022…aka 22 Buys in 2022.
When I decided to do this back in December, I took to Instagram stories to share, and ended up having 9 others express interest in joining. So, our group has an ongoing group chat – sharing temptations, items they did/did not buy, items they’re looking for, etc. It’s great to have outside accountability and support of course.
In our group everyone has their own “rules.” For me, mine are:
-clothing
-purses
-shoes
-bags
-jewelry
-items that are being replaced (ie my black turtleneck)
-bridesmaid related items
-replacing socks/underwear/bras
-items that are gifted by a brand, or received as a personal gift
-fitness clothes (BUT*** I am not allowing myself to go crazy here – 1-2 items/month, max and I am selling older shorts, leggings and tanks)
I have found the challenge to be insanely helpful so far. I am much less likely to browse online when I’m bored, I look at everything with a significantly more discerning eye than before, and I have put myself in way less “shopping for fun” situations. It is only March, but I’m happy with how I’ve done so far.

#1 Black Mini Skirt – I’ve been looking for a versatile, season-less black mini for a while and this one from Nordstrom was a great price point + has tulip faux wrap for added detail
#2 Chunky Black Leather Loafers – I wanted a more on trend loafer that still felt like me + this pair fit the bill. First time ordering from Lattelier Store and the quality impressed me more than I expected it to!
#3 Nylon Crossbody – this was an impulse buy with my Zara faux leather pants (it’s cute but not really needed but I love it and will use it!)
#4 Straight Leather Pants – I was waiting for the Abercrombie pair to be in stock in my size but it never happened, so we pivoted and got this Zara pair
#5 GotBag Backpack – I cannot get enough of this green color and I love that this bag is made from recycled ocean plastic, waterproof and is the perfect size for my laptop, charger, notebooks + pens.
#6 Silky Multicolored Blouse – purchased from my friend’s small female owned boutique, I think this will work in multiple seasons as well
#7 Chunky Knit White Sweater – I was in an Abercrombie for the first time in years while in Chicago last month and LOVED this sweater right away. can’t wait to pair it with shorts for cool summer nights!
My plan is to keep you updated monthly with my closet additions then do an entire recap at the end of the year. I’m curious – has anyone ever done a year long shopping challenge before? If so, I want to hear about it. Keep up with me here, on the blog, or over on Instagram!
xo,
Maddy
