Hello + happy Thursday. I’ll admit, I actually thought yesterday was Thursday so the fact that it is just now Thursday is a slight disappointment, but I leave for California tomorrow so it is allllll good. 🙂
On a style note, there are two topics I want to touch on today: print mixing with the same print and wooden accessories, but first, something a bit more personal.
I actually wore this outfit to baby shower last month, and it was the perfect mix of casual and dressy for the event. The wild part is that we were celebrating my best friend’s younger brother + girlfriend, who are expecting their first child this summer. Yes, my best friend’s younger brother, who might as well be my younger brother, is going to be a DAD. The parents to be are both so excited and it is absolutely adorable, but it is also CRAZY to me that they’re going to be parents. I know plenty of people in my age range are having their 1st, 2nd or even 3rd child, but I am still so far from being ready for that. [Still not even ready for a dog haha].
(Congrats again PJ + Jena. I can’t wait to meet Leo!)
I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that I turn 27 next month…so I’m going to keep living in denial until it happens 🙂
Alright, let’s chat style. I know I’ve shared plenty on here about mixing prints, but not as much about mixing the SAME print. Generally I think polka dots or stripes in a neutral palette is the easiest route, but it definitely works with other colors as well.
My main tip is to have a size variance in the pattern. As you can see, both my shoes are black and white polka dot, but the dress has a black base with medium size dots, and the shoes have a white base with much smaller dots.
Blair Eadie (aka queen of fashion in my mind) is always pairing different polka dot pieces together – you can see some of her looks here/ here/ here/ here and here.
Since the polka dots are enough of a statement on their own, I tried to go with funky but neutral accessories. The beads on the wooden hoops coordinate well with the strap of the bamboo bag, and I love that they are lightweight. Wooden accessories scream “summer” to me, and summer is my favorite season to dress for. (And the easiest season to shoot blog pictures in!)

Do any of you love print mixing? Let me know in the comments. I’m always looking for more print mixing inspiration so I can shop my closet.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. Have a great weekend!
xo, Maddy
