Today I wanted to share two sustainable + affordable kitchen products that I love. Both are under $25 and can be consistently reused. If you’ve followed me for a while you know I’m a big fan of Stasher Bags.
Stasher Bags are silicone resealable reusable bags. (An alternative to Ziploc or plastic sandwich bags). They can be used for hot + cold items, can be used in boiling water and the microwave, AND are dishwasher safe. (And they have their whole site on sale for Earth Month!)
They are available in a variety of sizes and colors and are sold both online and in some stores (my local Target stocks them). They have different types of bags and sizes so I wanted to share the ones I have and what I use them for:
Half gallon – strictly used for raw meat/marinating. Instead of wasting a big Ziploc bag every time I want to marinate chicken to grill (which is a weekly thing for me). I have one specific half gallon Stasher that is used only for this and gets dishwashed after. I can fit about 5-6 chicken breasts in the bag, which is plenty for our household.
Sandwich sizes – I find I often use these most for fruits + veggies – for example if I use part of a cucumber or half an orange pepper or apple, I put the remaining food back in the back and put it back in the fridge to use later. Also great for traveling with snacks/food or bringing them to work!
Snack sizes – these I usually use for actual snacks. Now that I’m back in the office 2 days a week I bring my snacks in them – pretzels or nuts, or if I eat half a protein bar and want to put it away, etc.
I have had all of my bags for 2+ years at this point and I love them! It definitely cuts down on single use waste and it’s something simple I can do to contribute.
Second, Geometry Not Paper Towels! I purchased two packs of these to help replace paper towels/napkins in our home. I have a good number of old towels that I now use for cleaning but was still using paper towel for small spills and with meals. Paige at @stylethislife shared them and I immediately ordered! We’ve been using ours for a few months now and I love them.
When they arrive, they’re stiff, but after the first wash (I wash mine with laundry on delicate) they soften up. I actually throw mine in the dryer too and have had no problems. I love that they have pletny of fun patterns and that I can easily throw them in the washing machine. Plus, so much less waste!
I have heard great things about their dish towels but haven’t purchased any yet – that’s probably next on my list.
Anyway, I’d love to hear your favorite sustainable kitchen products OR if you use either of these.
Thanks for stopping by today!
xo, Maddy
